History

It is believed that in the past, Captain Francis Light came to Penang and the hill was originally leveled for the planting of strawberries. Visitors who disembarked at the upped station of the now-revamped funicular railway can clearly see the iconic entrance to David Brown’s on Strawberry Hill along the road and it’s just minutes away from the station.
